Our rain sensor module is great for a simple electronic project. The sensor detects snowflakes, raindrops or dampness and sends both analogue and digital outputs to an Arduino or Raspberry Pi. The sensitivity of the unit can be adjusted by the onboard preset.

The module has a digital output which is high (approx +5 or +3.3 volts) or low (about 0 volts) when the sensor is wetter than the level set by the sensitivity preset.

The unit also has an analogue output which emits a voltage depending on the amount of raindrops or dampness and the supply voltage. Typically this is equal to the supply voltage (3.3 or 5 volts) when bone dry. When soaking wet, the output is around 0.7 volts for a 3.3 volt supply and approximately 1 volt for a 5 volt supply.
